The state of Utah has millions of acres of land trusts whose financial return goes to helping public schools provide better instruction. The annual distribution from the permanent fund, where revenue from school trust lands is deposited, is distributed to every public school in the state through the School LAND Trust Program. Site-based committees prepare plans approved by local school boards that identify an academic need and a proposed solution using the annual dividend.
We currently have 5 North Star Academy parents (as well as 3 members of the staff) on the committee, which will meet once a month to take a closer look at our school improvement plan and approve funds for these academic needs.
